The Faith I Live By

by Shauna Menns

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8.

Several months ago, I shared a children’s story at church, which had even some of the adults considering that perhaps they don’t trust God enough in the small things.

The story was titled “Out of Ink!”

As a homeschooling family, we use a lot of ink to print worksheets, assignments, and other things that may be of interest to the children. Subsequently, we usually have a good supply of ink cartridges on hand. Somehow, we lost track of how much ink we had available to take care of an impromptu project, which was definitely going to need more ink than we had on hand.

Like the tinkerer that I am, I realized that the ink supply in both cartridges was running quite low and I would not have enough, so I proceeded to check the printer to see if there was anything I could do to help it to function optimally and produce more ink. When that didn’t work, I ordered what we needed, knowing that it would not arrive in time for the project in question, but that it would address future needs as they arose.

“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Matthew 21:22

The ink was next to impossible to see on the paper and all the local printing establishments were already closed because I was working late at night. Seeing the dilemma I was facing, I laid my hand on the printer, breathed a silent word of prayer, asking the Lord to miraculously allow the printer cartridges to function as though they weren’t low on ink, and that I would be able to print what needed to be printed.

Was I surprised when in answer to my prayer Abba graciously granted my request? Absolutely not! Why? Well, it is simply because this isn’t the first time that the Most High has answered one of my quirky prayers.

This experience definitely strengthened my faith and belief in the power of God even in little things and the areas of life that we think are mundane, petty, or seemingly inconsequential. I learned that God cares about the minutiae of our day-to-day experiences, and wants to be involved if we will only let Him.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37

So, as you go through today, remember that the One who made Heaven and Earth, and created you and me, is well able to not only hear but also to answer your heartfelt cries for help in your moments of desperation.

Is your proverbial cartridge out of ink? Ask, and in His divine providence, He will give you that which you are asking for in faith and humility.

Have a wonderful day!

May God Abundantly Bless You.
