Time for Introspection

by Sherita Thompson

Are you the kind of person who finds fault with almost everything other people do? Come on. Be honest! Do you feel justified in pointing out and seeking to correct the faults of the children and husband that God has so graciously blessed you with? While you gloat about righting others’ wrongs, do you somehow never see any of the wrongs you do? If so, beware of self-righteousness.

It’s amazing how easy it is for us to see the fault in those around us, especially when we’re constantly in each others’ space, but are completely unwilling to recognize and address our own issues. Matthew 7:3 asks a very pointed question: “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” Talk about introspection and major self-examination.

Sisters, when confronted by the truth of God’s Word, we cannot be hypocritical and condemn those nearest and dearest to us – those of our own household – when we have discrepancies in our own character that need a major overhaul.

May God help us to walk in humility and like the publican in Scripture may we see ourselves for who we truly are – sinners just like our neighbor, in need of His grace and mercy.

May we not console ourselves with the notion of being better than anyone else, but let us seek each moment to humble ourselves and draw strength and power from the dear Savior to truly walk in victory over our sinful nature.

Ever be mindful that little eyes are watching everything we do; little ears are hearing every word we say; little hearts are being impressed by the influence we exert each and every day of our lives. So let us be the best image of our Heavenly Father to them as we seek to live a life that is in harmony with His Word.
