The curtains are pulled.
Your skin radiates underneath the dimmed lights.
Your laughter echoes around the room!
I touch your toes and your little feet danced.
I reached out my hands to hold you,
But you playfully crawled away,
Still smiling and looking back at me.
You rubbed your eyes and nose,
It’s bedtime, I know.
That’s your signature sign, the same from birth.
I sat and waited, I watched and waited.
You crawled over to me and rested your head upon my legs.
Unbeknown to you, I smiled back at you.
My heart gushing with love.
I whispered a thank you prayer to our Heavenly Father up above.
I picked you up. Upon my breast you lay your head.
It’s your favorite cozy spot. It’s the only one you’ve got.
You curled your body up against mine.
As our bodies touched, our warmth become one.
Your palm clasping my index finger as my thumb stroke the back of your hand.
Your body relaxed, then your hands dropped.
You continued to suck, but your rhythm slowed. Sweet and slow. Slow and sweet.
My eyes still glued to your face,
I continued to hum your favorite lullaby.
“Good night to you.”
“Good night to me.”
“Now close your eyes and go to sleep.
“Good night. Sleep tight. Sweet dreams tonight.”
“Good night. I love you.”
Sweet dreams my little one,
Sweet dreams my love.
Upon my bed you’ll rest tonight.
I will always love you my sweet baby girl.
