Christian Education at It’s Best

They Changed Me

“And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou rises up.”Deuteronomy 6:7

If you’re in a place where you’re contemplating private vs. home school education, I encourage you to sincerely pray about it and ask our Heavenly Father what you should do. Believe me, He hears even the simplest of prayers and is willing to direct you as needed for the journey ahead. In my estimation, this decision rests heavily upon you weighing your options and deciding what’s best for your family and for your child(ren).

The Word of God is crystal clear in instructing parents to train up their child(ren) in the way they should go, so that when they are grown, they will remember what they have been taught. This instruction is not only in matters of manners and deportment, interpersonal relationships, academics, etc., but also impacts the spiritual development of our little ones. Scripture indicates that we, as their stewards, are expected to teach them about their Creator, help them understand how they fit into His great plan, and help them build characters for eternity.

Without a strong foundation, the construction of any building is in jeopardy. The parable of the wise man building his house on the rock and the foolish man building his house on the sand, helps us to further understand that without a good, solid foundation, the storms of life will indeed test and prove of what material we’re made. One house stood firm, while the other fell flat because as the trials and adversities of life beat upon both, the foundation was revealed.

Our Heavenly Father invites us to build our lives upon His Son, Christ, the Solid Rock. As we do so, with the help of the Holy Spirit, our entire lives will be a reflection of His presence in our hearts and in our homes. Let us therefore be diligent in leading our little ones to learn more of Him and live for Him each day, all while we purpose to be godly examples to them in word and in conduct. May the Word of God be the standard by which we govern our own lives and their daily instruction, so that they will be fruitful and successful in the sight of the Lord.

So let us endeavor to make Christ the center of your home, and ask Him, the Great Teacher, for daily guidance to bring up and nurture your child(ren) in the fear of the Lord. Let’s make a concerted effort to embrace our positions of power and influence in helping mold these precious lives for the greater glory of our Heavenly Father, and for the greater good of the world around them.

Heavenly Father, we are blessed, and thank You for the privilege to train up our little ones in ways of truth and right living. Please help those who are considering home education or facing challenges on the journey, and continue to lead and guide us in all we do to love and shepherd them in anticipation of their life with You in eternity, we humbly pray.

Amen!
